Our Views: Another pitch for steel mill
Baton Rouge Advocate Editorial, July 22, 2008

In planning a trip to South Carolina to help court a major potential employer for Louisiana, Gov. Bobby Jindal is recognizing that in economic development as in so much else, showing up is an important part of the game.

Jindal recently announced that later this month, he’ll travel to South Carolina to tour a facility operated by steelmaker Nucor Corp., which is considering whether a site in St. James Parish will be the location for a new $2 billion plant.

Jindal has talked about work-force development, ethics reform and education as part of Louisiana’s economic development plans. Jindal can be a persuasive and articulate advocate for Louisiana on economic development trips such as his planned trip to South Carolina.
