Approximately 100 local residents gathered in the Scott Hamilton Warehouse here to catch a glimpse of Gov. Bobby Jindal on Monday.
Among those in attendance to listen and ask questions of the governor were police jurors, city councilmen, state officials, school board members and the mayors of Dubach, Simsboro, Downsville and Ruston.
“The point (of visiting various areas) is to listen to people all over the state,” Jindal said.
“They shouldn’t have to go to Baton Rouge just to talk to the governor.”
Following a statement of support by Lincoln Parish Sheriff Mike Stone, Jindal gave a rundown of recent legislation and his stance pertaining to issues ranging from education to infrastructure.
He noted how a state surplus was recently allocated for the roads.
“I don’t have to tell you we have a $14 billion backlog on road (projects),” he said. “We didn’t have to raise gasoline taxes to help the roads.”
Jindal highlighted two main areas in need of focus for the state’s educational system. The first, he said, has to do with retaining good teachers.
