Jindal Wins Endorsement of Louisiana Independent Pharmacies Association

BATON ROUGE - The Louisiana Independent Pharmacies Association (LIPA), representing the more than 600 independent pharmacists and their pharmacies, today announced their endorsement of Bobby Jindal for governor.

LIPA Chairman Ricky Guidry, a pharmacist who owns and operates a pharmacy in Iowa, LA, said, “After our members have had the chance to meet with all the major candidates and review their plans for improving health care for all Louisiana citizens, we are excited to endorse Congressman Jindal. Congressman Jindal is keenly aware that as independent pharmacists we stand at the front line of health care delivery in Louisiana. By providing timely access to the necessary and appropriate medications, and counseling our customers on the importance of maintaining their medicinal schedule, pharmacists help offset the tremendous costs associated with hospitalization.”

Drury Bynum, a pharmacist and owner of Ouachita Pharmacy in Monroe, said, “As governor, we are confident that Congressman Jindal will continue to support and advance health care policies that put the patient first.”

LIPA board member and owner and operator of a pharmacy in New Iberia, Andy Soileau, said, “We have had an opportunity to work with Congressman Jindal on health care issues in his capacity as Secretary of the Department of Health and Hospitals and we welcome the opportunity to work with him to bring forth new ideas which will save the consumers and the taxpayers money while affording them the ability to have their healthcare needs fully addressed.”

Central Louisiana pharmacist Marty McKay said, “Congressman Jindal has been a strong supporter of health care policies that put the focus where health care should be focused - the best outcome for the patient. As a pharmacist and a Louisiana citizen that is what I am looking for in our next governor.”
Jindal said, “I am honored to receive the endorsement of the Louisiana Independent Pharmacies Association. These men and women who assist patients – especially in rural communities that depend heavily on their service – are a fundamental part of our health care system in Louisiana. I look forward to working with them in ensuring that every patient and family in our state has access to high quality health care.”

LIPA  highlighted that fact that Louisiana patients rely on locally owned community pharmacists for over 30 percent of the prescriptions filled in the state - twice the national average.
