Editorial: Teacher Bill of Rights is first step

A bill signed into law this week by Gov. Bobby Jindal is supposed to ensure that teachers are physically safe in their classrooms and that they are treated with civility and respect.
...it will perhaps give teachers a stronger hand when they must deal with undisciplined and disruptive students who probably shouldn't be in the classroom in the first place - and with parents who think their unruly kids should be allowed to do as they please wherever they please.
The so-called Teacher's Bill of Rights says teachers have the right to remove disruptive students from class, the right to discipline, to teach without fear of lawsuit and have their professional judgment respected by administrators. It also says that teachers have the right to work without physical harm.
It says that teachers have the right "to teach in a safe, secure and orderly environment that is conducive to learning and free from danger."
