Child health care outreach paying off

Aggressive outreach efforts have helped the state add 11,000 children from low-income working families to its health care rolls since January, allowing the Department of Health and Hospitals to exceed its goals for the year, officials said. The numbers are expected to grow even more in the months ahead as the state rolls out an expansion of the Louisiana Health Insurance Program to cover an estimated 6,500 children in families that make between 200 percent and 250 percent of the federal poverty level.
