NFIB members Dan Flavin of Lake Charles and Pat Felder of Baton Rouge joined Jindal to make the endorsement announcement. Felder said, “Bobby Jindal’s track record in Congress is simply outstanding. As a member of Congress, Bobby Jindal has been a strong advocate for small business - including support for legislation that would enable small business to access more affordable health insurance and would repeal the harmful death tax.”
Jindal said, “I am honored to receive the endorsement of the National Federation of Independent Businesses. Small businesses in Louisiana are the backbone on which we will build a booming and prosperous economy. With our ports, our energy, our resources, our people, and our location, there is no reason Louisiana should not only be a leader of our country’s economy but a leader for the entire hemisphere. My number one focus as governor will be grow our economy in Louisiana through the many initiatives laid out in my 24-point detailed economic reform plan, and I look forward to implementing these important policies to expand businesses and create more high-paying jobs with the help of business leaders and NFIB members all across Louisiana.”
On his 24-point economic development plan, Jindal said, “My 24-point plan for economic reform, includes initiatives to eliminate roadblocks that stifle investment…including the elimination of the utility tax, the manufacturing, machinery and equipment tax, and the franchise tax on corporate debt. It also works to create an environment where we win the battle with our neighboring states, and streamline our regulatory process to make it fair, predictable and transparent.”
“Reforming our economy in Louisiana also calls for us to increase the R&D tax credit for companies that invest in our university research programs, and more aggressively seek federal research dollars for our universities. We also need to dedicate recurring transportation taxes and fees to improving our infrastructure, and emphasize road quality and a reduction of traffic congestion. Our infrastructure dollars should be focused first and foremost on improving our economy. This means investing our dollars in projects such as the completion of I-49 and improving our port-facilities.”
“Everyone needs to understand this – I don’t want there to be any confusion about it. Whenever someone asks you – what is the main focus of Bobby Jindal as Governor – it is to improve the job climate here in Louisiana. That’s it. That’s my main focus as Governor. Of course we need to work to reform the education system, eliminate the corruption in our state government, crack down on crime and get runaway state spending in check, but all of these things must be done in order to make economic development and better paying jobs a reality in Louisiana. We will do all of this to make Louisiana become what it can be, what it should be, and what it will be.”
Jindal has already released a 31-point plan to eliminate corruption in Louisiana government, a 25-point plan to reform runaway government spending, a 28-point plan to crack down on crime and a 21-point plan on education reform – all part of the Jindal Fresh Start for Louisiana Plan.
